Spinning Disk Hard Drive = Lost Productivity
Plain and simple. Traditional spinning disk hard drives (HDD) should almost never be used in work computers.
Why? Because of how much slower they are than their superior counterparts, the SSD.
The average loss in productivity, per employee, from a slow computer is about $4100 per year (Helion).
Back in the day, an HDD made more sense as it was considerably cheaper than an SSD. But today, the average cost of an SSD is about $30-$60.
So why are computer manufacturers still putting spinning hard disks in computers in 2021?
It’s because they are still cheaper than SSDs. Especially for higher capacity drives. And manufactures count on the average consumer to not realize the difference.
Manufactures want to make you think that you are getting a better deal than you are. For instance a 1000 Gigabyte HDD sounds a lot better than a 250 Gigabyte SSD. But in fact, for the average user, the 250GB SSD will be much better. Especially with the advent of cloud services like OneDrive, in which we are no longer saving as much stuff locally to our hard drives.
But when factoring the true cost in lost productivity from a slow computer, you could buy 4 high end computers for that price every year.
Stop using an HDD and switch to an SSD today!
